When and Where is the 2023 NFL Draft?
The 87th NFL draft will be held in Kansas City for the first time ever. Here‘s the schedule:
- Thursday, April 27: Round 1 starts at 8:00pm ET
- Friday, April 28: Rounds 2-3 start at 7:00pm ET
- Saturday, April 29: Rounds 4-7 start at 12:00pm ET
All draft events will take place at Union Station in downtown Kansas City. This historic train station opened in 1914 and now hosts restaurants, shops and science exhibits.
Prospects will take the iconic stage when their names are called and pose for pictures with the commissioner. Diehard fans can also attend the free NFL Draft Experience throughout the week for autographs, games and so much more.
How Does the NFL Draft Work?
The draft is when NFL teams take turns selecting amateur college football players to join their franchises. Teams pick in reverse order of their finish from the previous season, so weaker teams get access to top talent.
There are 7 rounds and 262 total picks. Thirty-two picks are made in Round 1, with each team getting one selection. Rounds 2 and 3 have 64 picks, while Rounds 4 through 7 consist of 192 picks.
Teams can trade draft picks to move up or down the draft order. They can also be awarded "compensatory picks" for losing valued free agents. This year‘s draft has been expanded to include additional compensatory picks.
Here is the full order for Round 1 of the 2023 NFL Draft:
- Chicago Bears
- Houston Texans
- Arizona Cardinals
And so on…through pick 32.
What TV Channels Will Air the Draft?
The draft will be broadcast over three major TV channels, divided as follows:
- ABC will televise Rounds 1-3 on Thursday and Friday
- ESPN will cover all seven rounds from Thursday through Saturday
- NFL Network will also broadcast all picks
